Three other males aged, 14, 16, and 18, cannot be legally identified since they were under 18 at the time of the alleged gang-rape.
NSW Police allege the 17-year-old victim was approached by a male stranger, 16, who engaged her in conversation and followed her to her car at Liverpool Westfield Shopping Centre at about 5.30pm on December 15 last year.
When she reluctantly let the teenager inside he allegedly sexually assaulted her, and said he would get out if she drove him to Wheat Park in Sadlier, but when she arrived two more males got into the car and allegedly sexually assaulted her.
A fourth male then arrived in another car, and police allege the girl was then driven around in her own vehicle and sexually assaulted, at times by multiple males at once, while they allegedly filmed. She was left alone in her car at 11.30pm, contacted a friend and reported the alleged attack to police.
About 7.20am on December 20 police arrested a 16-year-old male at a home in Condell Park, and later charged with 24 offences including nine counts of sexual intercourse without consent, eight counts of aggravated sex assault- offender in company with other person/s, two counts of aggravated sexual assault in company and inflict actual bodily harm, and five counts of sexually touch another person without consent.
At 7.35am on the same day a 14-year-old male was arrested at a home in Miller, and charged with 10 offences including seven counts of aggravated sex assault – offender in company with other person/s, aggravated sexual assault in company and inflict actual bodily harm, aggravated sexually touch another person, and sexually touch another person without consent.
Both were refused bail and appeared at a children’s court on December 21.
Then on Tuesday police raided two homes in Sadlier and Heckenberg. In Sadlier, police arrested an 18-year-old man who was later charged with nine counts of aggravated sex assault – offender in company with other person/s. He was refused bail and appeared in a children’s court on Wednesday.
NSW Police Sex Crimes Squad Detective Superintendent Jayne Doherty said on Wednesday that the 16-year-old video called friends while he was allegedly raping the girl in her car, and police allege they shared snippets of the alleged attack.
“The four of them [allegedly] acted together, creating fear on the victim, degrading her, whilst the others offended against her, and at times, there was more than one person offending against this poor young girl,” she said.
“It beggars belief that in this day and age men would think to act this way towards a girl. They haven’t stopped at any point during that six hours and said, ‘This is wrong’ to any of their co-offenders.
“That’s the difficult part to come with – that four people could act together and keep going at that type of offending over such a long time. They have no right to act like this towards women, there is no culture or ethnicity that would ever condone actions like this.”
Acting NSW Police Commissioner Peter Thurtell said in a statement on Wednesday afternoon: “Covert strategies to identify the roles of each [alleged] offender were put in place, both physical and electronic surveillance was used extensively.
“The moment officers knew they could throw the book at them, arrests were made.”
Abdul Hamid’s lawyer Muhammad Tehsledar told the court he would be making a release order application, and said outside court his client maintained his innocence, Daily Mail Australia reported.
The 19-year-old will have his case heard again on August 13 at Campbelltown Local Court.
