A disgruntled western Sydney man has accused Labor Education Minister Jason Clare of snubbing White Australians in his immigrant-dominated electorate by sending Lunar New Year letters and gifts to Asian residents only.
The package includes a card, a fridge calendar for the “Year of the Horse”, and a letter written in English, Vietnamese, Chinese and Korean saying “I would like to wish you and your family a very happy Lunar New Year. May the Year of the Horse bring you good health, good luck and prosperity”.
The card is also written in the same four languages, and bears the same Lunar New Year message.
The annoyed resident of Blaxland, where the majority of the population is born overseas and 77.1% of households speak a language other than English, told Noticer News that Mr Clare was clearly pandering to non-White voters.
“Jason Clare did not send White Australians any such message on Christmas, Federation Day or Australia Day,” he said.
Mr Clare, whose wife is the daughter of a Vietnamese refugee, did not respond to a request for comment.
As Education Minister Mr Clare has presided over record number of international student arrivals and an increased cap, and his social media accounts are full of photos of him trying to appeal to immigrant voters.
Last year he joined Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on a visit to a sprawling new Hindu temple complex in Kemps Creek where the MPs posed in front of a 15 metre-high statue of an Indian religious figure, and pledged $8.5 million to build Australia’s first Hindu school.
