Three people have been killed after an Indian truck driver made an illegal U-turn on a Florida highway, causing a horrific crash that was caught on dashcam.
The fatal smash took place on the Florida Turnpike in Fort Pierce on Tuesday when the semi-trailer crossed in front of a Chrysler minivan while turning into an “official use only” area.
The 30-year-old driver of the minivan was unable to avoid a collision, and photos from the scene show the wreckage of the smaller vehicle wedged underneath the truck.

Two passengers, a 37-year-old woman from Pompano Beach and a 54-year-old man from Miami died at the scene while the driver was rushed to hospital where he died of his injuries. The truck driver and passenger were both uninjured, WPTV reported.
The Florida Highway Patrol is now treating the crash as a homicide investigation, but no charges have been laid against the truck driver, who is in his 20s and lives in California.
Carlos Portela, a manager at transportation company Centreport Inc with 25 years of experience as a licensed truck driver, said the man behind the wheel of the semi-trailer should never have attempted the illegal manoeuvre.
“When you hold a commercial licence, you’re considered a professional driver, and you should know better,” he said.
“Nobody is supposed to use [the turning area] except the Florida Highway Patrol and other emergency vehicles.”
Mr Portela added that if one of his drivers had done the same it “would have been their last day”, and said he’d seen murder charges laid against drivers who had caused similar fatal crashes.
“When you kill somebody, it’s a big investigation. I mean, I’ve seen it happen,” he said.
