A man has been released on bail after being charged with allegedly personating Chinese police and being caught with ammunition and illegal firearms in Sydney.
NSW Police said they spotted a black Mercedes sedan with Chinese police insignia in Strathfield on Friday, and spoke to a 20-year-old man nearby who allegedly showed them a disability pass and a fake document stating the car was being used to transport officials from the Chinese Consulate.
Photos released by police show the English word police misspelled on the bonnet along with the Chinese characters for police, and a black “PRC – 1949” plate under the NSW licence plate saying “Embassy of the People’s Republic of China” along with a Chinese government logo.
During a search of the car police allegedly found a box containing 48 rounds of live ammunition in the boot, and the man, a firearms licence holder, allegedly told police he had two rifles in a gun safe at his home.

Police searched the man’s home in Baulkham Hills, seized his registered firearms, allegedly found two illegal gel blaster firearms, and took the man to Burwood Police Station.
He was charged with “use display emergency services organisation insignia”, “drive motor vehicle with unlawful police insignia”, “use false document to influence exercise of public duty”, “holder of Category A or B licence not have approved storage (two counts)”, “provide information known to be false or misleading”, “possess unauthorised prohibited firearm”, and “not comply P2 licence condition not display P plates”.
His firearms licence was also suspended.
The man was granted conditional bail to appear in Burwood Local Court in Tuesday.
