A manhunt is underway for an Albanian prisoner who escaped custody while attending a funeral in Melbourne.

Victoria Police said Orijol Rukaj, 47, was being supervised during the visit to Keilor East Cemetery at about 1.30pm on April 25, but managed to flee the cemetery undetected during the service.

Rukaj is described as “Caucasian, 170cm tall with short shaved black hair and a solid build”, and was last seen wearing a white shirt, black suit and Asics runners, and police released two images in the hopes he may be recognised by a member of the public.

He is known to frequent the Sunbury and St Albans areas, and police said while he is not believed to be violent members of the public should call Triple-Zero immediately if they see him.
