New South Wales Premier Chris Minns has declared that a fake bomb plot he used as a pretext to bring in controversial “hate speech” and anti-protest laws was not a “hoax” during a meltdown in parliament.
The caravan full of aging explosives and a list of supposed Jewish community targets found in Dural was declared a “fabricated terrorism plot” by police in March, and was immediately and repeatedly referred to as a “hoax” by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and dubbed the “Dural caravan hoax” by the media.
But on Tuesday Mr Minns said the phrase “emboldened extremists” during an emotional tirade in parliament about a Nationalist Socialist Network protest outside the building on Saturday against the influence of the Jewish lobby on Australian politics.

“The Parliament also needs to address directly the assertion that anti-Semitism is a hoax and that the so-called Dural caravan plot was a hoax. That emboldens extremists, and they use that rhetoric to justify their appalling, obnoxious behaviour on Macquarie Street.
“All members are required to confront that kind of bigotry on New South Wales streets. The government will be asking for multipartisan support in order to send a clear and unambiguous message that Nazis are not welcome in New South Wales.”
Mr Minns ranted at length about the protest in Question Time, at one point holding up a meme saying “Sky Jews” made to mock the News Corp channel’s obsession with Israel and anti-Semitism, said he wanted new laws banning “Nazi behaviour and speech”, denied that the Anzacs fought for a White Australia, called the NSN “absolute bandits” and “horrifying individuals”, and said the government would try to remove a “sunset clause” on his “hate speech” laws.
During the rally speakers Jack Eltis and Joel Davis both referred to the fact that all of the major attacks on the Jewish community in NSW have been declared criminal con jobs by police, and noted that the Jewish lobby had used them to pressure Mr Minns to pass the new legislation in February.
Following the revelations that the caravan plot was faked by organised crime, a parliamentary inquiry that is yet to hand down its findings was established to look into whether Mr Minns knew it was a hoax but rushed the laws through parliament anyway.

Then last month the Supreme Court ruled the protest element of the legislation was invalid as it violated the implied constitutional right to political communication, and on Monday in an interview with 9News Mr Davis took aim at the premier for his attacks on freedom of speech.
“Recently there were laws struck down that Chris Minns’s government under the behest and pressure from the Jewish lobby earlier this year against political protest near religious buildings,” he said.
“That was struck down by the NSW Supreme Court, so Chris Minns has a track record of trying to make unconstitutional laws and to rip apart the fabric of liberal democracy. He has not respect for the Constitution, no respect for the institutions that have governed this country since federation.”
The protest sparked four days of criticism from MPs from both major parties, with Liberal member for Vaucluse Kellie Sloane demanding that the 67 activists be thrown in jail before deleting her X account.
