An African man has been charged over a terrifying alleged machete rampage in Melbourne which left two people with severe upper body injuries.
Madut Aropp, 21, allegedly stabbed a woman, 24, and a man, 54, and damaged cars before barricading himself inside a home in Caroline Springs on Saturday night where a tense 1.5-hour siege unfolded.
He was arrested after surrendering to police at 11.30pm and was later charged with two counts of intentionally causing injury, two counts of criminal damage and one count of affray.
Aropp was refused bail on Sunday where the Bail and Remand Court heard he was “possibly withdrawing from alcohol”, and will face Sunshine Magistrates Court on Monday, the Herald Sun reported.
Dramatic footage shows heavily armed police surrounding the suburban home before a shirtless man emerges and is told to lie on the ground and put in handcuffs.
Aropp allegedly posted live videos of himself attacking his victims, showing the 54-year-old man on the phone to police while trying to defend himself with a pole.
A neighbour said Aropp had been living in a home on the street owned by his mother.
“I bumped into him two nights ago and we were just having a chat,” the neighbour said.
“He was telling me that like the police are onto him, trying to get him or something.
“I said what have you done, and he goes oh nothing it’s just tribal gang fighting that’s going on from back home (from Sudan).”
The alleged rampage comes just weeks after a group of African teens attacked a Sudanese male with machetes in the same suburb, leaving him bleeding from horrific wounds while others filmed instead of helping.
The bystander said about 10 youths of Sudanese appearance stood and watched the victim bleed from severe wounds to his upper body and hand after he was set upon outside the CS Square shopping centre.
