Woman attacked by ‘brown-skinned’ predator in Gold Coast national park

A woman has been attacked on a walking popular trail at a Gold Coast national park, and police are appealing for assistance hunting down the male suspect.

Queensland Police said the woman, 38, was grabbed from behind in Burleigh Heads National Park at about 5.30pm on Friday and physically assaulted before two members of the public intervened.

The man fled on foot in a northernly direction towards the look-out, and the woman suffered minor physical injures, police said, and asked the Good Samaritan couple to come forward.

Police did not release a description of the suspect, but the woman shared photos of her injuries in a local Facebook group and described her attacker as “brown-skinned”. She also said she believed the couple who helped her were Chinese.

“Warning to women: I’m scared and shaken. Today on the Talle to Burleigh Hill trail, a man came out of the bushes and grabbed me. I screamed and got help by a passing Chinese couple I think. Please be careful,” she wrote.

“About the person I couldn’t see much. Was a tall person, brown skin, wearing black shirt and black cap. Happened on the top of the trail.”

She included photos of red marks on her neck and torso, and said she had given as much information to police as she could.

Police said anyone with information, including anyone with relevant footage or dashcam vision of the area around Burleigh Heads National Park and Goodwin Terrace, should contact them immediately.

The incident comes just weeks after a 19-year-old woman was attacked from behind in the same area, with police at that time describing the suspect as “having a dark complexion, short hair, wearing a dark green singlet and dark coloured pants”.

No arrests have been made over the November 2 incident.
