Australians are demanding answers after it was revealed Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has flown out of the country on a secret seven-day holiday to an undisclosed location.
Mr Albanese and his fiancée Jodie Haydon flew to a “tropical location” this weekend, and the corporate media has agreed to government requests for a news blackout on his destination for security reasons, citing threats at home and abroad, news.com.au reported.
Aussie travellers spotted the Prime Minister and Ms Haydon flying economy, and even though the trip is understood to be privately paid, the pair are accompanied by a taxpayer-funded Australian Federal Police security team.
Mr Albanese had not released an official statement informing the Australian public that he is overseas, saying only that he was “on leave for seven days”, and many Aussies reacted with outrage after the trip was exposed on Sunday.
“Why are the scum media not wanting to know why Albanese and co have gone on a secret holiday for a week, and where has he gone?” one social media user demanded to know.
“How come Albanese has disappeared on a holiday for a week, and the media have no interest where he has gone and why?”
“What a surprise, Albo overseas again”, and “called Airbus Albo for a reason,” said another, referring to criticism of the large number of trips he took immediately after the 2022 federal election.
“Was it an electric plane?” joked a third, while someone else said: “It must be nice to afford one.”
Others compared the secret trip to one taken to Hawaii by previous Liberal Prime Minister Scott Morrison during the 2019/20 Black Summer bushfires, when the Prime Minister’s Office refused to inform the public that he was away or where he had gone.
The trip comes a week after an aboriginal man was charged with allegedly threatening to kill the Prime Minister, prompting Mr Albanese to make a public call for civility.
