A female South Australia Police cadet who is accused of sexually assaulting a teenage boy twice earlier this year has faced court in Adelaide.
Laura Beatrice Richardson, 23, from Williamstown, was charged with two counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with an underage youth in July, and was granted police bail after her arrest.
According to court documents, Ms Richardson allegedly committed the offences against a boy aged under 17 at Munno Para in June, 7News reported. In South Australia a person must be aged 17 or older to consent to sexual activity.
She appeared in Adelaide Magistrates Court on Tuesday, and prosecutors told Chief Magistrate Mary-Louise Hribal they were waiting on evidence and needed 12 more weeks before the case could progress and Ms Richardson could enter pleas, The Advertiser reported.
Prosecutors said they needed to compile DNA reports, obtain further police affidavits, review Ms Richardson’s mobile phone, have further discussions with the alleged victim, and get reports from Yarrow Place, a sexual assault service provided by SA Health.
Ms Richardson’s lawyer Stephen Ey said the charges were not admitted, and there were no negotiations going on in the background.
Her bail was continued, and she will face court again in January.
Ms Richardson was studying at the Fort Largs Police Academy when she was charged, and was suspended on full pay.
