Aboriginal rugby league competition the Koori Knockout has sparked debate by warning attendees to check their bail conditions before travelling to the event.
The organisation made a post on its official Facebook page on Tuesday for the 2026 NSW Aboriginal Rugby League Knockout, which will be held in early October.
“If you’re currently on bail and planning to attend the Knockout, now is the time to check your bail conditions and make any necessary arrangements before travelling. Bail variations can take time, so please seek advice and support early,” the post read.
“CALL + YARN with your local Aboriginal Court staff, legal representative or court registry to understand your options and avoid unintentionally breaching your conditions.
“Please share this important message with family, friends and community who may need it.”
An accompanying image included the logos of the NSW Government, which regularly provides funding for the event, the Aboriginal Legal Service, NSW Police, and Legal Aid NSW.
The post generated a mixed response from social media users, with some questioning whether the post was real.
“Surely this is satire?” asked one.
“I feel this could have been an email. A group one,” said another.
Others objected to the post, and said bail should not be varied for sporting events.
“Why the hell should anyone be given privileges for bail variations to watch the footy?” asked one.
“You’re on bail, it shouldn’t be changed to meet your needs you have to change to meets its,” another wrote.
