A teenager is in hospital with critical injuries and another has been charged after an alleged stabbing at an Islamic school in Brisbane.

Queensland Police said the two males, aged 16 and 17, were involved in an altercation at the Islamic College of Brisbane on Acacia Rd in Karawatha at about 11.45am on Tuesday.

The 17-year-old, who is from Logan, was then allegedly stabbed multiple times with a small knife, and was treated at the scene for life-threatening injuries before being rushed to the Princess Alexandra Hospital for treatment.

Police allege the 16-year-old fled the scene on foot but was found a short time later in a vehicle on Gowan Road in Stretton.

He was later charged with one count each of “acts intended to maim/disfigure/disable” and “unlawful possession of weapons category M”, and will appear in Richlands Children’s Court on Wednesday.

The teenagers cannot be identified due to their ages.

Students at the school said they were placed into lockdown, and some said the alleged attack unfolded in front of primary school students, who have been left “traumatised”.

Other students told 7News they believed the weapon allegedly used was a “kitchen knife”.
