The driver of a coach bus who caused a catastrophic collision in Virginia on Friday is a Chinese national who does not speak English, authorities say.
The horrifying crash, which left five people dead and more than 40 injured, unfolded at around 2:35 a.m. on Interstate 95 in Stafford County.
Investigators say traffic had slowed ahead of an upcoming construction zone but the bus driver failed to do the same, ultimately slamming into several vehicles and then careening into the grassy median.
A 25-year-old Massachusetts woman who was driving a Chevrolet Suburban struck by the bus was killed, as well as four occupants of an Acura SUV identified as an adult male and female, 13-year-old girl, and 7-year-old boy.
At least 44 people were taken to local hospitals, including several in critical condition.

The bus driver, who was also injured, has been identified as Jing Dong, 48.
Dong, a Chinese migrant with U.S. citizenship who resides in Staten Island, New York, does not speak English, local authorities told Transportation Sec. Sean Duffy.
“He received his commercial drivers license from New York State in 2024,” Sec. Duffy stated. “If you can’t be properly trained, read our road signs, or communicate with law enforcement, you have no business driving a bus.”
“Our investigators are reviewing New York licensing records, training documentation, and the driver’s history. Any company, trainer, or school that contributed to putting an unqualified driver on the road will face intense scrutiny.”

Charges against Dong are reportedly pending.
In December, another Chinese bus driver caused a similar deadly crash in Tennessee when he became distracted by a video he was watching on his phone and rear-ended a big rig on I-40.
Huang Yisong, who illegally entered the U.S. under the Biden regime, had also been issued a CDL by the state of New York.
