An Australian surfer has been barraged with death threats and antiwhite abuse by angry Indians after fake news spread that she was American and defecating in a “sacred lake”.
Ellie-Jean Coffey, 30, posted a clip of herself going to the bathroom off the side of a boat on Lake Argyle in the Kimberley region of Western Australia, but the video went viral in India claiming she was at a lake in Udaipur, Rajasthan, and was even featured on the TV news.
“A shocking video from Udaipur has gone viral showing an American tourist po*ping into a lake from a boat. Locals were left outraged, calling out the hypocrisy as foreigners often blame India for being dirty,” wrote a massive Indian social media account.
“The clip has sparked massive backlash online, with people demanding stricter action against such disrespectful behaviour.”
“Can she be deported!? American tourist seen p*oping from boat into lake in Udaipur!” another video posted on the Indian internet was captioned.
“White tourists are pooping openly in lakes of Udaipur, India. Whites are not beating the unhygienic allegations,” read another.
“A White female tourist from the United States of America—the greatest country on this planet—was caught relieving herself in a lake in Udaipur, Rajasthan. May God bless her, and may god continue to bless to bless the United States of America—the greatest country on this planet,” said a fourth.
After the abuse and death threats started to roll in Coffey reposted the clip with the caption: “I’m setting the record straight: I’m Australian. This is the Aussie outback. It was not in India.”
“I started getting comments from people questioning whether I was in India but I didn’t know what was going on so I just left it,” she told news.com.au.
“It’s so crazy and insane. I’ve had people telling me I should be deported from India – and I’ve never even been there.”
But despite the update she is still getting hundreds of comments from angry Indians calling for her to be deported and fines, with some even tagging Indian government officials.
Coffey also explained that she was urinating, not defecating, filmed the clip for a bit of fun, and has never been to India.
“It was just a normal day and I had to go to the bathroom while we were cruising through the Kimberley,” she said.
“I had to go to the bathroom – and it was only a number one, I want to make that clear. There was a 1.5-2 metre crocodile nearby so I took the risk and went, while keeping my eye on it.”
