Sri Lankan doctor accused of indecently assaulting female patients in Perth

A Sri Lankan immigrant doctor has faced court accused of molesting two female patients during appointments in Perth.

General Practitioner Vino Lunchana Kariyakarawana, 48, appeared Perth Magistrates Court on Thursday charged with three counts of indecent assault.

Police allege the offences occurred at Dr Kariyakarawana’s practices in South Perth and Carlisle on separate occasions between April and July this year, The West Australian reported.

The GP nodded when asked by the magistrate if he understood the charges.

The case was adjourned to October 8, and Dr Kariyakarawana declined to speak to media outside court.

According an online profile, Dr Kariyakarawana moved to Australia in 2008, has a Masters in Public Health, a Diploma in Child Health, and is “trained in managing Mental Health issues such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, post natal depression, sleep disorders, eating disorders etc”.
